Hurricane Helene's Impact in Appalachia
Hope from the inside out
As a multilingual ministry, we are uniquely positioned to communicate effectively with victims, ensuring that their needs and concerns are understood and addressed. This linguistic capability allows us to foster deeper connections and provide tailored support to diverse communities.
Where we're working
Hurricane Helene left over 100,000 homes in North Carolina damaged or destroyed, with many residents facing severe or catastrophic impacts. The storm also affected various other structures, including:
- 1,400 landslides
- More than 160 water and sewer systems damaged or destroyed
- At least 6,000 miles of roadways damaged or destroyed
- Over 1,000 bridges and culverts damaged or destroyed
- 44 emergency response facilities damaged or destroyed
- 145 healthcare facilities damaged or destroyed
Additionally, the hurricane caused significant flooding, isolating residents from external assistance and communication.
What we're doing
We will offer comprehensive team hosting and logistics support, coordinating missions specifically designed to meet the unique needs of each group or individual. Additionally, we are dedicated to providing the same quality of missionary support that we have successfully established in Costa Rica and Brazil. By leveraging our experience and resources from these regions, we aim to empower volunteers and organizations to make a meaningful impact in the Appalachian Mountains.
At the heart of our mission is the principle of “Go Live Love!” We strive to build relationships wherever we are called to serve, fostering a sense of community and connection in every endeavor. Together, we can rebuild not only the physical structures but also the lives of those affected, restoring hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
